For sale is a very wonderful watercolor, painting by the well regarded Cleveland artist, teacher, and art professor Hugh Seaver (1918 - 1963)Seaver was well regarded as an artist, printmaker and teacher in the Cleveland Ohio area as well as at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. We know the artist travel to Italy on a scholarship early in his career and that could very well be where he executed this wonderful luminous watercolor painting.It depicts a view of fishing boats looking out towards the grand canal with what is most likely, the Saint Mark Bell Tower in the background. In the foreground, fishing boats and gondolas are at dock. Seaver became a nationally known for his sporting art printsIt's very rare to see the artists paintings come up for sale. He then completed his education in both the Fine Arts and in Architecture when he received a two year traveling scholarship for France and Italy. Upon his return to the United States, Hugh Seaver accepted the post of professor in the Department of Etching at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Hugh Seaver's passion for art was only equaled by his enthusiasm for the sport of fresh water fishing, and thus it is not surprising that most of his finest etchings and engravings concentrate upon this subject. During the 1930's decade, Hugh Seaver's sporting art was widely exhibited throughout the United States, including major exhibitions in Chicago, Detroit, New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Atlanta and St. Louis.
