Summary:
The Executive Director provides executive leadership and is responsible for the overall performance of the organization and its day-to-day affairs, including implementation of board directives and policies.
Fundamentally, the Executive Director is expected to competentlyharness the collective talent & energy of the board, staff, volunteer team members, and supporting stakeholders to accomplish the organization's mission, vision, goals & objectives.
The Executive Director is the chief executive administrative officer and is directly accountable to, serves at the pleasure of, and is supervised and evaluated by the board of directors.
Duties & Responsibilities Serve as Chief Executive Officer to the Board of Directors and implement board approved policy decisions in accordance with applicable law and regulations, board policy, contractual obligations, and ethical guidelines.
Drive strategic planning and organizational development processes to ensure that the United Way's plays its singular role in strengthening philanthropy, volunteerism, and coordination in the county's social service sector.
Apprise the Board of any and all activities related to the constituencies served through fund distribution, including updates on agency partners and programs, and relevant public policy issues.
Cultivate a culture of volunteerism in the county through partnerships with businesses and social service providers to develop volunteers' skills and dynamically meet community needs.
Work Activities Prepare monthly President's Report for the Board.
Review and edit monthly board meeting minutes and coordinate monthly speakers.
Initiate the board nominating process.
Participate in board requirement in collaboration with Board.
Coordinate annual board orientation.
Participate in the hiring of all staff.
Supervise and evaluate the work of the Vice President and work collaboratively with VP to meet agency objectives.
Oversee the effective implementation of the annual fall fund drive.
Solicit major gifts from individuals and foundations as appropriate.
Research and write grants, and act as the primary contact person for all grants and major gifts.
Supervise and evaluate the work of the Chief Financial Officer and work with CFO in the development of the annual agency budget and all other required financial reports and documents.
Sign all checks and review associated documentation.
Participate in and review the annual audit.
Collaborate with United Way staff in the development of marketing strategies, and make the final decision on all matters related to marketing.
Oversee and participate in fund distribution process, including presentation of funding recommendations to the Board.
Keep abreast of issues facing underserved or disadvantaged populations and work with local community members, county government, and/or local agencies and organizations to fill gaps in services.
Promote United Way through a variety of venues including, but not limited to, public speaking at local community events, radio, print, etc.
Be an active member in local, state, and federal groups that promote/share United Way's mission (i.
e.
DSS Advisory Council, ALICE Steering Committee, 211 Policy Council).
Ensure that Employee Handbook is up-to-date.
Knowledge and Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills Strong marketing, public relations, and sales or fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders Interpersonal skills including listening, group dynamics management and conflict resolution Word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software proficiency skills Group presentation skills Past success working with a Board of Directors or non-profit organizations as a volunteer with the ability to cultivate existing board member and community relationships Specific Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and at least five years of directly related management and leadership experience A willingness to take on a challenge of leading an organization at a crossroads in its history A passion for service to the community Salary:
$85,000 - $105,000 depending on experience
